Letters From The Teachers

SAT & ACT Test Prep Library

August 5, 2009

I was thrilled to learn of your recent gift to the College & Career Center at my large, urban high school. Our tiny library of outdated college entrance exam materials had outlived its usefulness. I can't wait to replace those 20th century texts filled with sample SAT or ACT tests from way back when with the exciting titles your donation will send us.

In recent years, about 22% of my seniors have attended a four year college after graduation. I am committed to watching this number grow and believe that hip, smart, and effective test prep will help increase access to college. Without a decent test score, my students (many of whom do not enjoy an enriched home environment or privileges that middle class youth may take for granted) cannot gain admission. Your spontaneous gift is going to open doors for some very deserving young people.

With gratitude,
Ms. K.

Text Books for Advanced Placement / College Chemistry Course

June 30, 2009

Thanks so much for purchasing two General Chemistry textbooks for our high school's College Now Chemistry class. This resource will allow students to take college-level course work while still in high school and earn up to 15 hours of university credit at no cost to them.

In a high poverty school like ours, College Now courses give students confidence and skills that will serve them well in their future academic careers. Your generous gift is an investment in these students lives that will pay big dividends.

With gratitude,
Mr. T.

7th Grade Shakespeare Turns Stugglers Into Scholars

June 22, 2009

Thank you so much for your generosity. I am currently on summer vacation and am using this break to plan my curriculum for next year. I am really excited to know that I'll be able to add a Shakespeare Unit to the schedule. Bringing Shakespeare and everything that entails (language study, live performance, historical study, critical thought and analysis) will definitely benefit my students.

You have provided my students that opportunity to tackle a powerful work of literature that will empower them to think differently about who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing.

It is so wonderful to know that there are people in this world who care enough about education to help fund projects that will really make a difference. Thank you for making a difference in my student's lives.

With gratitude,
Mr. F.

Let's get ready to READ!!

May 1, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous offer. Our district has recently created a new Literature model and focus on reading. We are all working very hard to ensure that our students become readers and not only that, but lifelong readers. Readers who think about what they are reading and make inferences and connections to the text. With this program I will be able to accurately assess my students' reading ability and help them to choose books that are at their reading level. I will also be able to continuously monitor their reading progress and create intervention groups to help my struggling readers.

I hope you realize the impact you will be having on student success. At a time when budget cuts are inevitable, you have made it possible for me to get the resources I need in my classroom. I can't thank you enough for your generous donations. You have made a teacher very happy...and have made it possible for kids to get "just right" books in their hands. Thanks again for all your support.

With gratitude,
Mr. G.

If You Give a Kindergartner a Great Book...

March 22, 2009

I would like to take this time to sincerely thank you for your generous donation to my classroom library. I am always so inspired and filled with awe that people who do not know my students or myself would so generously give so that we may have the new supplies we need.

So thank you again so much for your generous donation to my class library. You can know that your donation is being very much appreciated, especially in these tough economic times.

With gratitude,

Ms. J

Alive! Discovery Center: Part II

March 4, 2009

Thank you so much for the materials. They are making a big impact in our classroom. My students are learning comprehension strategies with books that match their abilities. They are choosing books that interest them, and are discovering new ways to enjoy reading. With the nonfiction comprehension cards. they are also having the chance to practice answering questions similar to those on the state test.

My students are eagerly devouring these resources and are learning a lot. These books have quickly become a huge part of our literacy instruction. Other teachers have come in and borrowed for their classes as well.

With the even more recent budget shortfalls that will probably lead to a shortened school year, your contributions means a lot. Our students depend on the generosity of people like you for their success and growth.

Thank you so much!

With gratitude,
Mr. K

We Need "MAUS"

February 10, 2009

Thank you so much for the donations for the books we need. I was so excited to get the email from that I called one of my co-workers right away to tell him we were going to get the books! Receiving the funding and knowing that the book MAUS will be arriving takes a load off of my mind. Most students enjoy graphic novels and I have found that the boys get into the book more. I look forward to using the books to show another view of WWII.
Thank you, again
With gratitude,

"Feed" Me a Story!

February 3, 2009

Wow! Your generosity is so incredibly appreciated, especially during these difficult times. I can't wait to get my new books -- I know my class will enjoy them. I labored long and hard in finding a novel that would be perfect for my 11th grade humanities class and was delighted when I discovered "Feed," only to be utterly deflated when I learned it was not available through my district.

Your assistance will allow me to share the important message of "Feed" with my students and will provide a much-needed warning against the dangers of over-abundant consumerism.

Again, thank you for funding this class set of "Feed" for us!

With gratitude,

Ms. N

The Demon Under the Microscope

December 3, 2008

Thank you for funding out project. The students will be thrilled to get their own copy of this book. We have had to xerox the chapters and this leaves a lot to desire as far as literacy appreciation with teenagers. They do not like reading books in that format. They are getting a lot out of the book, too. We just finished a segment on the current situation regarding the number of bacterial infections that are non-treatable due to the resistance that we are creating by the misuse of antibacterials. We are reading the book along with our lessons. So again, thank you for your very generous donation and know that you have helped these students understand how important their choices about health contribute to the general health of the public.

Best Regards and Happy Holidays,

Mrs. L

Reading for a Sustainable Future

December 2, 2008

Thank you for funding our project, "Reading for Sustainable Future"! My students are looking forward to the opportunity to read approachable non-fiction and to learn more about how to eat "sustainably." As a literature teacher I feel that it is my job to prepare my students for all aspects of life, as literature itself encompasses all facets of existence. I humbly thank you for your kindness and dedication to the future generations!

Understanding Other Cultures Through Poetry!

November 19, 2008

I was so pleased to learn that my proposal had been funded. Thank you so much! I am truly looking forward to exploring this poetry with my class and hearing the wonderful discussions this book will provoke. This is a topic often overlooked, and instead of learning the truth about our friends and family from the Middle East, we tend to buy in to the stereotypes presented to us by the media and propaganda. It will be refreshing to hear the point of view of someone who has lived a life there. Your kindness will make this happen. Your generosity means a lot to me and my students, and I thank you for that.

Best Books For Young Men

October 28, 2008

Thank you very much for your generous donation to my class and my project "Best Books for Young Men." Earlier in the year the students created several book sets to ask for. We agreed to start with this one and one for the young ladies in class. I am happy to inform you that two weeks ago the other project was funded. The boys have been feeling a little envious and I CANNOT wait to inform them that somebody out there filled their request for books. This means a great deal to us. On behalf of my entire class, I'd like to extend a heartfelt and sincere "thank you."

October 21, 2008

I am so happy that my children will be able to greatly benefit from your generous donation. I am very excited to let the children know that we will be receiving new books for our classroom. With the support of kind people like you, teachers all around the country can make a huge difference in the advantages that our children can receive. Thank you so much for your support.

Reading Takes Us to Places Unknown

September 23, 2008

Thank you so much for generous donation to my classroom! My students and I will be thrilled with the new books for our classroom library. I am elated to receive such a wonderful gesture of kindness and generosity. My students will now have quality non-fiction and science books. Books For Chemistry

September 9, 2008

Wow! I am amazed at how quickly this request was funded. I'm so excited to be able to get these books to my students this soon in the year. It is really hard for me to completely express the full depths of my gratitude to everyone who made a donation! My students are already excited about chemistry, but the stories contained in these books that you have provided will bring in a new aspect of sincerity that only history can provide. With your something as simple as generosity, you have opened up more windows than you can even imagine. Once again, my deepest gratitude, on my behalf, and on behalf of my students.

Undressing the Dismal Science

January 29, 2008

Thank you for funding our project. We begin a new term this week, and the students and I are all excited for the chance to break out from our textbook and interact with economic ideas in a more interesting and enriching way. This will provide a spark of renewed enthusiasm as the school year in gray western Oregon drags on.

Thank you so much,

Mr. T
